About?

This blog is a hybrid of sorts, half about opinions on issues that others miss (or intentionally misplace), and half about broadening perspectives to include the human factor, the part of each of us that is imbedded in the questions at hand.

I’m an average guy, underemployed and overworked, just making it in the middle-class meule that has become our country. I remember a different time, one where progress had a more human side, and one where the assumptions about what mattered most were measured less in dollars, and more in our common ideals and shared aspirations.

To this end, the sharper point of this blog is to turn the light back on us by reminding us that we are the people who’s responsibility it is to seek to learn and grow into the larger part of the questions at hand. Yes, sometimes there are simple answers, but even then, the interests of those who would win or lose almost inevitably throws those answers into obtuse complications and intractable gridlock. This is because the deeper human issues are largely left out of our motives and machinations.

What is lost in much of these discussions, is that in each position, we can either affirm our common humanity, by acknowledging and hearing the concerns of the other, or rigidly disregard and disparage them solely for the sake of our own self interest. That is the choice, and it is in large part a choice that is, and always has been, deeply a part of being in the human condition.
